Brownie, Guide, Ranger & Young Leader Weekend on Water 20-21st June

Save the Date! Join Brownies, Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders from across the county for a day of adventure on the water!

We will once again be running water activity days at St Ives Sea Scout HQ this year and are busy confirming details ready to open bookings.

Saturday 20 June is reserved for the Brownies on either the morning or afternoon session with their unit leaders. Each session will involve an activity on the water and an activity on land and no prior experience or swimming ability is required to take part.

On Sunday 21 June, it will be time for Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders to take over for a full day of water and land activities with a high possibility of getting very wet! Girls should book directly with county and again, no prior experience or swimming ability is required. Leaders are not required to attend with their units but we will need adult volunteers so please get in touch if you would like to participate.

When: Brownies - Saturday 20 June 9.30am-12.30pm or 2pm-5pm. Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders: Sunday 21 9am till 4.45pm (registration 15 minutes before start time)

Cost: £15.00 for Brownies (half day) £30.00 for Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders. An event badge is included for all participants.

Who: Brownies will need to attend with a unit. Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders can attend without their leaders to this event.

All activities will be run by qualified leaders in line with girlguiding policies. All equipment including buoyancy aids and helmets where appropriate will be provided and all safety equipment provided must be worn.

All those taking part will need:

soft soled, closed toe shoes that stay on in the water for the water activities, eg old trainers or plimsolls (not Crocs or flipflops)

a complete change of clothes (including underwear and socks). For Guides, Rangers and Young Leaders they should may need two changes, depending on the weather forecast. If participants have their own wetsuits they are welcome to bring them but this is not required. For Brownies, they are not anticipated to get fully wet but they will need a change of clothes just in case.

a lightweight raincoat to protect against wind and water.

a bag to put wet clothing in

a sun hat and sun cream - reflections on the water increase potential for sunburn even on a cloudy day

a strap for glasses if needed when on the water

a towel

a refillable water bottle

snacks for breaks between activities (no nuts please)

for the full day, a packed lunch is required (no nuts)

there will be a tap to refill water bottles and a small tuck shop open during breaks for both days – please provide a max of £5

hair will need to be tied back for the day in a style suitable for wearing a helmet

any medication needed for the day

As with any open water activities there is a risk of waterborne disease so, all participants should cover any cuts and shower when they arrive home.
