Welcome to the team!

We are so excited for you to join our team! Thanks to you, more girls will gain confidence, feel empowered and have great adventures. And we hope that you’ll enjoy everything guiding has to offer too.

Here are some tips to get you started:

How to log in to GO

GO is our online database about all our young members and volunteers. It records personal information as well as achievements and for our young members their journey through the programme.

If you made an enquiry to become a volunteer on the Girlguiding website, you should have received an email inviting you to log in to GO. GO can also be accessed here: go.girlguiding.org.uk

If you need some help logging into GO, check out the Girlguiding website.

Once you are logged in, click on your name on the top right and then 'My Profile' to make sure all the details about yourself are correct. Also check your marketing preferences. If you want to receive news from Girlguiding and from the county you'll need to tick 'email' and 'regional information'.

Recruitment checks

To keep all our young members safe, we complete recruitment checks so that you can focus on what matters most - helping girls laugh, learn, explore and have adventures.

Safer guiding training. You can do this online on the learning platform, when you have signed into your GO account. To ensure the training is completed as quickly as possible, you will be provided with a deadline by which the training needs to be completed. You don't have to complete it all in one go; you can dip in and out and save your progress along the way.

References. You will be emailed instructions for how to add two referees to your record. A referee can not be a relative or someone who has known you for less than a year.

Disclosure Check. If you are working with our young members, you will also need a disclosure check. Information on how to do his will be emailed to you directly. Remember to contact your commissioner if you need some help.

Once you’ve done these three elements, you’ll then become a full Girlguiding member.

How to become a leader

Join our team of inspiring leaders; learn how to run a brilliant unit, provide a great programme and support girls to be the best version of themselves. All while learning new skills and developing your confidence.

The Leadership Development Programme (LDP), is a learning journey for anyone who wants to become a Girlguiding leader. It is flexible to fit around your other commitments and is led by you.

Interested? To become a leader, you’ll need to complete the 'Becoming a Leader' training, which is on our learning platform. When you have completed this, talk to your commissioner and leaders at your unit to let them know you’re interested. Your commissioner will contact the county office and request for a mentor to be assigned to you. Your mentor will be someone who is not from your unit or your commissioner who will help to support you through the programme and answer any questions you may have. They will also 'check-in' on you at least three times to see how you are getting on.

Who can I ask for help?

Try reaching out to your unit team. Someone in the unit may have the answer to your question, and it's always a great idea to make contact with your new unit. There may also be local district or division Facebook groups where people can help you.

Commissioners. Your commissioner should have introduced themselves to you and they are always a great starting point for any questions you may have. If not your district commissioner, your division commissioner should be able to help too. Contact details for your division Commissioner can be found on our website.

County Office. Jackie and Jules are our county administrators. They are there to help the county run smoothly. If you need to contact them you can do so at [email protected] or on 01487 773476. The office opening hours are on our website.
